Born to Run...

Zoe has always been the little runner in our family. From early on, she would run with her friends and they were so perplexed by how fast she was and that they couldn't keep up! Almost everyday when we stop to check the mail she asks if she can run home. Running is in this girl's blood. When I heard there was a track program, I asked her if she was interested. She thought for a moment and then asked, "Do I get to win a medal?" She was all in if it meant she got to beat someone, haha! The program met twice a week for 6 weeks with one track meet at the end. We chose for her to race the 50, 100, and 200. Since Kason also had a basketball game at the same time, Nana and Pops split their time.
Zoe was a little nervous at first because the track was so big and there were so many people, but Nana easily settled her mind :)...
Since Zoe was one of the youngest, the coaches allowed us to stay on the field with her. Let's just say, this little lady SMOKED everyone her age!
She won all three races by a large margin and when I got the results the following week, her times actually beat all the kids (both boys & girls) for ages 4-7. After her first race, one of our coaches who hadn't seen her run before recruited her to run a relay. He couldn't believe she was only 5!
We definitely have a sprinter on our hands! The best part though, is how much joy she has running...I love seeing her get to do something that she loves and has fun doing it.
If you ever talk to her about racing, she will crack you up. She knows that she is super fast and will non-chalantly tell you how no one can keep up with her, ha! One of the most amazing things while watching her race is that she isn't even giving it 100%. She will slow down and look behind her to see where everyone is, then speed up a little, then slow down. She reminds me of Dash on the Incredibles :). I'm envisioning lots of days spent cheering this girl on at future track meets!
