October Homeschool...

Homeschooling is still going well for two of my munchkins. Zoe is still working on letter recognition and sounds.
Kason finished up nouns and worked on adjectives all month.
We did a mystery bag one day where he had to write adjectives to describe what he felt before he could guess the item.
We even went on an adjective scavenger hunt!
For writing, these two have a prompt they address twice a week. For an art project one day, we made these cool foil art pieces with cardboard, hot glue, foil, and markers. They had to create a mythical creature (like our fairy tales and folk tales) and write a story.
We did a small unit on maps and geography...zooming in from the solar system to earth.
We even went geocaching one day after learning about longitude and latitude.
This month in reading we studied fairytales and folktales...
Our math curriculum spirals, so we are still reviewing skills he has already been introduced to. I knew that Kason struggles with the concept of telling time, so we spent a week exploring time in various ways. We did a fun Grouchy Ladybug activity...
We made play dough hands to help us tell time...
Nana sent us this really cool exploding volcano Math game that the kids LOVED. We did addition review for round one and then clock flashcards for round two while Zoe worked on number recognition both times.
I have done a couple STEM days where we just build and create with small challenges. These of course are one of their favorite Math days!
They almost always choose to build with legos, but on occasion they will go with wiki sticks or linking cubes.
We learned how to read thermometers which he picked up quick!

We've also worked on rounding for the first time so I had a few games for him to play.
When we reviewed measuring, I had a few camping themed activities since we were headed out camping that weekend.
Max is also doing really well in school. The classroom he is in is really calm and structured, so he loves going each day. We have been so fortunate to get another really good teacher for him. He can identify his numbers 1-10 when provided two numbers to choose from. He knows 3 letters already and he is doing better at coloring/pasting on his worksheets. Here are a few pieces of his work...
The bus still picks him up early each morning and he thrives on the routine. I enjoy my mornings hanging out with him while waiting for the bus to arrive.
All three Clayton Cuties are doing incredible in school so far this year! They are growing and learning and I'm loving watching their little minds at work. For example, I read a biography to them each week. One week we were learning about Nelson Mandela and Kason made the connection between Martin Luther King (who we studied last year together) and the segregation that happened in America. While reading further, Zoe out of no where made the correlation to Rosa Parks (from one of her favorite books). It's so fun being a teacher and a mom as I watch connections being made and real conversations about life and learning taking place in our home!
