Wave Crashers...

You can't go to the beautiful California coast without being a beach bum and enjoying some waves of fun! Our little wave crashers were itching to hit up the beach once we got settled in Newport, so Daniel and I snuck away for a little bit one afternoon early in the week to take Kason and Zoe.
Kason may have been to the beach before, but he only played in the sand so this was Zoe and Kason's first time to catch a wave!
Can't you just hear their giggles in this picture?!? All four of us loved every minute splashing around in the waves together!
Of course, my hole digger was super excited to get his hands a little dirty :)...
We had taken a shuttle from the resort to this little spot on the beach and it was a perfect location for a little afternoon fun. But when we went the last day of our trip with the whole group, we opted to go to Balboa Peninsula since there was more room to play.
The waves were huge that day and just way too much fun!
Daniel and I had a blast jumping through the waves with Kason, Sadie, and Zoe while Mimi and Doc hung out with the littles...
Aunt Shaye and Uncle Bryan even taught Zoe the Dodson beach tradition of finding seashells...
All Kason could talk about was boogie boarding, so Daniel rented them a couple. I'll let you decide if he enjoyed it or not :)...
That's right, this kid LOVED boogie boarding! Daniel was a bit more adventurous and went pretty far out to catch a few bigger waves...
before this momma decided to give it a go! I may have looked more like a beached whale, but boy did I have a blast too!
After splishing and splashing in the water, the kids were itching to get their toes in the sand...
or their shovels in Kason's world...
Mimi surprised the kids with kites which was super fun to do together...
From there, we went to the Newport Pier to check it out...
The munchkins really enjoyed walking out over the ocean, watching the kids playing along the beach, surfers trying to catch a wave, seeing the buckets of what the fisherman caught, and were even surprised by a sea lion...
Max especially loved wondering around and looking over the edge to the water below...
The boardwalk boasted shops and little cafes to eat in...
which we lightly explored before heading back to the resort.
To say these sunshine sweeties had an incredible week together would be an understatement. This family vacation was definitely a hit and we thoroughly loved our time together with the Maddux clan. Thank you Mimi and Doc for a bucket full of memories!
