Summer Adventures #weekfive

The last day of our California trip, Max woke up at 3:30 am screaming his painful cry. I knew immediately something was off, but wanted to get him back to Texas before we had him checked out. We flew home late that day and waited out the night before I took him to the ER Saturday morning. The ER doctors weren't really sure what was wrong with him, so they admitted him into the hospital.
I ended up staying there with him for nearly four days. The doctors thought at first he might just be constipated so they worked on clearing him out. Thankfully his shunt series was clear and no other major concerns were evident, so we just had to wait out all his cries of pain, moaning/groaning constantly, sleeping around the clock, stiff neck, and fever spikes.
Daniel was super sweet to follow along with all my texts of what this holiday loving momma had wanted to do that 4th of July weekend. So he took the rascals to the Leander celebration & fireworks Sunday evening...
and the neighborhood 4th of July parade Monday morning where they met up with their friends...
Since we really weren't sure how long Max could be in the hospital, Nana & Pops graciously offered to pick up the other munchkins since I couldn't keep the kids that week while Daniel went back to work. Our sweet friends, the Mullens, let the kids come play while Daniel made all the arrangements...
I made Max sport his red, white, and blue that patriotic day, but as you can see...
he wasn't thrilled with it, poor guy! As for Kason and Zoe, well they were all smiles to meet up with cousin Thane at Nana and Pop's house!
They went to the family 4th of July party that evening and had a blast playing together...
Not much beats spending a week at grandparents house, but having a cousin there just sweetens the deal...
especially when some playtime meant lake time!
Thane, Aunt Michelle, and DB ended up heading back to Lubbock after a couple days...
but that didn't stop Kason and Zoe from enjoying their one-on-one time with some favorites :).
As for Max, well we brought him home late Tuesday since the doctors still couldn't figure out what was wrong. Honestly, I think he might have caught viral meningitis (which is not the scary kind) on vacation because he had all the symptoms and struggled to move his neck for a week.
He had a difficult couple of days back home while his body tried to heal...
but eventually by the weekend, our little smile box finally started making a turn for the better...
I even enjoyed a hot date with these cuties one night before the other two came back home.
While our summer adventures for week five didn't quite turn out like I imagined, I am so thankful for a flexible husband who picked up where I left off with taking care of Zoe and Kason...even making sure he dropped by each day for a bit to say hi and bring me fresh clothes. I am also incredible thankful for flexible grandparents who jump in to help out when needed and provide our kids a stable environment when Max's medical needs arise. Thankfully #weeksix brought more summer fun...stay tuned!
