Gridiron Love...

Kason has always had a love of football, especially playing catch as a family. So ever since he learned his buddy Brayden plays flag football, he has been telling us ALL ABOUT it. Honestly, after the t-ball debacle of 2013 where Daniel had to literally play on the team as well (even running bases with Kason)...we really had a hard time saying yes. We talked a lot with him about overcoming anxiety and knowing that we would be on the sidelines this time around only cheering him on. He also had to prove to us in other areas like going to class at church without complaining in order to show us we could trust he was ready to play a team sport again. I am proud to say, Kason did it!
After showing us his confidence repeatedly, Brayden's dad pulled some strings to let us late register and be on his team. I can't even begin to describe how appreciative I am that Kason is on a friend's team...this has really helped him overcome his anxiety and feel more comfortable.
Let me just say, this kid has rocked it! He has grown leaps and bounds when encountering new situations...he still has moments of apprehension, but is slowly overcoming it. This football season has been so good for his self esteem and courage. Now, if we could only get him to stop cheering on his team and actually get aggressive...haha!
Kason has always been our kid that has lived in his head (imagination) and pretty much likes to do his own thing. His first priority is usually playing and having a good time...so it becomes hard sometimes for him to focus on the task at hand. Kason is actually really good...
he just struggles greatly with keeping his head in the game. He is either too late on the play because he is too busy waving to the sidelines, goofing off, or cheering on his teammates :)...
It is actually adorable to watch him because he will often yell my name and blow me kisses :)! But does it drive this competitive, sports lovin' momma nuts sometimes?!? Oh, you bet it does! At the first couple of practices and games, I tried talking with him about focusing and different strategies. Now I'm not too phased by it and am just a happy camper that this guy is having loads of fun.
That's all that really matters anyway, especially at this age.
To see him make new friends, laughing and enjoying a sport he loves, that is a golden moment right there. It has also been fun for the family to have little outings on Saturdays. Another treat has been for grandparents to come join our cheering section!
Their season is only 6 weeks, so it is just about perfect on time. Enough to learn about the game, but not get burned out.
This last Saturday was extra special because Kason was team captain and got to do the coin toss...
then when the team needed someone to run chains, my dad jumped in to help out.
How cool is it to have a grandparent who has referred football for 37 years run chains for his grandson...love it!!! So did Kason apparently because he kept throwing Doc thumbs up throughout the game :)...
Cutest thing ever! I love watching my little hustler in action (that is when he is paying attention...hehe!)...
Kason has managed to pull a few flags and even score a game winning touchdown!
So proud of our spaced out, gridiron lovin', flag pulling, touchdown running, teammate encouraging...
Seattle Seahawk!
