California Dreamin'...

The past couple of years have been a wee bit intense around our home with Max's medical situation. In fact, so time consuming that I have never really left him before. Therefore, Daniel and I thought it would be fun to take Kason on a quick get away to celebrate his 4th birthday for some much needed relaxation and one-on-one play time! What place came to mind during our planning process? None other than one of our most favorite cities...San Diego! So we left the babies with Mimi and Doc (after a mini-panic attack on my end), loaded a plane...
earned us a set of wings...
on our way to soak up the sun in California! First stop on our trip was to visit the beautiful Coronado Island...
We ate at a quaint Mexican dive, strolled along the beach...
and enjoyed a cool evening breeze off the ocean.
The next day was our big surprise for Kason...Disneyland! Of course that whole day deserves an entire blog post to itself, so I'll just tease you with a picture promising to post more details tomorrow :).
On Saturday morning, we strolled down the fishing pier at Ocean Beach...
and enjoyed a few giggles together...
before hitting the beach at Mission Bay.
Kason had a blast playing on Daddy's surfboard, running in the water,
and of course building sand castles!
We even wrote our favorite babies a little message and sent it to Mimi and Doc...
Daniel tried surfing a bit, but it was a really rough day due to the wind so he didn't go out for long...
before we dusted off and headed to brunch overlooking the ocean.
Later that afternoon after cleaning up, we took Kason to an aquarium because he is really into fish and sharks.
The aquarium was pretty cool because they had almost any type of fish you could imagine including...
a shark exhibit! The sharks were very small which was a bit of a bummer for Kason, but still fun to see anyways...
I think he had more fun outside in their kids exploration area...
Dad even got to feel a real starfish! Kason was a bit weary of touching any fish in their tide pool area, but loved seeing Daddy try it out.
One of my favorite areas of San Diego is La Jolla, where we took Kason to see the sea lions...
and seals. This cove was created for children's beach, but the seals took over.
The three of us had more fun walking around all the different beaches and piers...
breathing in the ocean air, dipping our feet in the water, but more importantly had a fabulous time creating memories together.
I'm fairly certain, if we were to ever run away and you couldn't find us in a small ski town in Colorado...then you would find us on a beach somewhere soaking up the sun in Cali!

  3. AWESOME! Love the picture of Kason starring at the ocean with his hands in his pockets and on the surf board. All the pics were great but those were my favs. Got to play with Max and Zoe at your parents house. They are precious! Max has really grown since I saw him. Glad you had such a good time. Thanks for sharing as always.
