Halloween Homeschool...

By now you know friends how much I am in love with holidays...AND teaching! So, when I get to combine the two...eeek...so much excitement! I decided to take a few days off of our regular study, to have some Halloween themed school. We had a stem day where I showed various cards...
and the kids had to create their version of the picture using legos.
Not only did they have a lot of fun, they did so well! I had a few activities that were more suited for Zoe, but Kason had fun playing around with her.
We were close to finishing our adjective study, so we made a list together using a haunted house. Kason had to use this list to write a spooky story!
We learned about Haiku poems and the kids wrote their own...
Kason really enjoyed this Candy Corn Greater Than/Less Than practice...
We watched a video on Spookley (since I couldn't find the book at the library)...
 Then did a reading activity...
 before working on our adjectives...
and making a cube like Spookely!
Zoe continued her work on number recognition and counting by filling up her cauldrons...
On the Monday before Halloween, we invited some other homeschool friends over for the morning to join us. Marie worked with Wyatt and Zoe on Room on the Broom.
and pumpkin investigations...
While I did a mystery with the big kids. They were trapped in a haunted house and they had to follow this parts of speech scavenger hunt to get out!
There were secret messages with a decoder, QR codes...
and secret messages that they had to use mirrors to solve!
 We made skeleton artwork...
and had a themed lunch before the kids took off to play :).
The kids and I read & watched videos as we learned about the history of Halloween and Dios de los Muertos. Our biography was about the man who created the skeletons that are associated with Dios de los Muertos.
We also used the map to locate the origin of Halloween and Dios de los Muertos. Kason had to create as many words as he could come up with from Trick or Treat...
and not only sort, but bar graph the candy he scored!
I love finding ways to make learning not only hands on, but intriguing and exciting for my munchkins!
