Science Mill...

I've been on the lookout for any field trips I can take the kids on this year. I heard about the Science Mill in Johnson City and it was AMAZING!!! Kason and I had so much fun there...in fact we didn't even finish the museum and plan to go back. When you first get there, they have the kids make an avatar.
When you go to each exhibit, you scan the QR code and your avatar comes to life...
One of my favorites was this topography map. We were able to move sand around and the map would adjust. So we created mountain ranges, lakes, a peninsula...such a cool learning experience.
Kason's favorite exhibit was about brain waves. You would strap on a monitor to your head and whoever could calm down their brain the most, a ball would roll to you. It was so cool to see that even though a person could relax their body, their mind was still active and the ball moved away from them! We watched a 3D movie about flying creatures, he learned how to make slides to view with a microscope...
and he created a car...
The Science Mill has homeschool days which is when we went. Kason went to a class for grades 3rd-5th where they learned about bacteria. I sat in the back of the room and read a book :).
Kason brought home his petri dish and we've been able to track the bacteria growth.
We will definitely be going back to the Science Mill this year! The next homeschool day is when Zoe is out of pre-school, so we look forward to her joining us and going to her own lab.
Cheers to science!
