An Austin Gobble Till You Wobble Holiday...

This was the very first year the Clayton Crew has ever hosted a holiday........and boy did we have fun! These little turkeys were super excited about family coming to their house (my side: the Maddux Clan), especially their cousins Sadie and Sophie. Everyone was in town by Wednesday morning, so Daniel and I planned an epic family fun filled Austiny day. We started by heading south to snap a pic at a local hot spot, one of the murals.
There are several funky ones all over I plan to hit up eventually, but knew that kids wouldn't be too impressed. So after the most iconic one, we then headed to one of our munchkins' favorite places, Zilker Park. I've always wanted to take them on the...
but just hadn't yet, so I knew this was a bucket list item for sure. Since there was time before we caught the next train ride, the kids hit up the swings which they all loved...
well, maybe except Zoe...haha! She isn't a huge fan of things that go fast, but she finally warmed up :).
There was a clown making balloon animals for the kids that you know Mimi and Doc spoiled the kids with!
At last the train arrived and it was time to chugga...chugga...choo...choo away!
Let me just say, the Zilker Zephyr is totally worth the money! It was only $2 a kid, the ride was really long, and was set in beautiful scenery...it went along the river, under a bridge, and in a little tunnel.
Super fun! Up next...
a local dive and favorite...Austin food trucks! There are several around town, but we chose Midway to get our grub on because they have a large playground for the kids to keep busy while waiting on their food.
The failure on my part was that most of the food trucks were closed due to the holiday. Oh well, we had fun anyway and it was the first time my parents have had the experience...but we will be back! The final stop for our Austin adventure was to decorate a tree on 360...
This is an Austin tradition and we just played our part in keeping Austin weird! The next morning was Thanksgiving and we started the day with our healthy crew who ran the local turkey trot...
The kids had hoped to run a 1K, but it started pouring after the 5K...but they still were able to cheer Aunt Shaye, Uncle Bryan, and Daddy on! My mom and I stayed home with the littlest ones all day cooking and you know my holiday theme food lovin' self couldn't resist making the kids homemade cinnamon roll turkeys!
We had a scrumptious meal together and I was even excited for one of our Young Adult's to join us this year!
After our Thanksgiving Feast, I had a few gobble gobble activities for the little turkeys.
We made play dough turkeys and played turkey tag...
Each munchkin had three turkey clothes pins on their clothing...
We created a parameter and let the kids loose chasing each other. The goal was to see how many you can steal, which as you can see...
Sadie rocked at it! She has the sneakiest, quickest hands and grabbed all those gobble gobble turkeys right up off both Kason and Zoe!
If you know Zoe's personality, she didn't like the game once she lost a turkey tag because it hurt her feelings and started crying. If you know Kason's personality, he didn't listen to instructions and just ran from the gals rather than trying to actually get any of his own. Therefore Sadie dominated and won! It was quite hilarious to watch and I think these little turkeys had fun. The finally activity was for them to share what they were thankful for.
We have actually spent most of the month talking about this together. My favorite was from Zoe when we did this at our Friendsgiving Feast. She said her puppies and everyone thought she got a new pet...haha...oh no friends, she was talking about her well loved, worn out toy puppies! I love the sweet innocence of children...because those toy puppies do bring her so much joy :).
The Clayton, Dodson, and Maddux Clans are football fanatics...so, when our two family rivalry teams go head to head...then it is a must go to game!
It had been raining most of Thanksgiving day, so my mom and I stayed home with the littlest ones while the big kids went to cheer on their teams!
Doc even joined the crew and all had fun...completely soaked...but loads of fun! Daniel and I are so completely thankful and appreciative of our family for allowing us to host the gobble till you wobble festivities this year!
Love, LoVe, LOVE this precious family and couldn't be more blessed to have them apart of our lives!
