Hup...Hup!

The Clayton Crew has had one awesome race season this year for Cyclocross! Nothing beats a day outside together as a family riding bikes :). On race days, we load up the car with bike essentials, pack a picnic lunch, and head out to grind some gravel...or in this case grass and dirt! Max loves being outside, so he is a happy camper just chillin' in the stroller...
while little lady usually tries to find any type of sticks or dirt to play with...
and this momma runs around like a crazy lady cheering on two of her favorite guys!
I love, LOVE that Daniel and Kason have a sport that they share together...
I also love, LOVE when we get to see Aunt Debbie and Uncle Kent at races!
It is an incredible blessing to see the way they pour their hearts into the lives of our kids whether it be playing with the littles or cheering Kason on. Another special treat was that Mimi and Doc made a day trip today to be in Kason's special cheering section!
So each race day usually starts with Daniel racing and the kids running around playing.
Daniel's division is always crowded...
but we love the hunt of finding our favorite racer in the white white helmet!
Like I've shared before, cyclocross is like a sprint on a bike. Each course is one lap with obstacles and the winner is declared by whoever makes the most laps in 30 minutes.
We are so proud of Daniel, his spirit of perseverance, and his infectious love of riding bikes and racing. I especially adore that it is being passed on to this hot shot racer...
I will say, that Kason rocked his practices each week but that the beginning of race season was a little hard for him. Not only do first time experiences make him a little anxious, he also didn't feel 100% due to sickness. Have no fear though, this trooper powered on and ended up rocking' this racing gig!
Obstacles like jumping over the barriers that was once difficult, became a fun challenge for him. His coach did an incredible job teaching him a variety of new bike handling skills including a few tricks on how to jump those barriers quickly...
Today's race had an extra challenge of a sand pit which Kason hadn't encountered yet. This hot shot ran right through it though like no big deal, determined face and all...
then mounted back up and hit the course!
One of my favorite moments as a mom has been to experience growth in our kids, whether it be new technical skills or the growth in confidence. Today as Daniel and I ran around videoing, taking pictures, whooping and hollering, cheering our favorite hot shot on while racing, we were beaming with pride as we watched Kason enjoy the sport of cycling...
he persevered with a positive attitude, he was confident in exercising the skills he has learned, he finished with a sense of accomplishment of a job well done...and the free treats at the end don't hurt either :).
I look forward to many more races to come in our future...
more days soaking up the outdoors, cheering each other on...
and sharing in the joy of being a family together who shares a common passion.
