Kason's First School Field Trip...

Today was a BIG day in Kason's book...something he has been counting down days and looking forward to...his first school field trip with his friends! I love having the flexibility to be able to join in on the fun and mingle with the other moms...plus little lady thinks she is big stuff following along with her big brother :).
The teachers planned their field trip to...
To be honest, I think the bus ride might have been just as exciting as the farm for these kids...they were all smiles and giggles as they got off from their hour long bus ride. Their first stop was to learn about goats from their tour guide, Farmer Jon...
they even had the chance to feed and pet the goats...
Then, they were able to explore ladybugs (which they have actually been learning about in class). Kason really enjoyed being able to release the ladybugs into the strawberry patch to eat the aphids and protect the plants...
Next stop on the farm was to learn about how pumpkins grow and the kids were able to plant their own seeds...
Last stop before the kids were released into the fields was to splatter strawberries onto a pennant to hang in their classroom!
You know they thought it was too fun to shoot strawberries at a target :). Finally, the kids were given crates and learned about when strawberries are ripe, ready to be picked.
Kason loves strawberries and was hilarious to watch because he took his time examining each strawberry before choosing...
while his buddies went crazy and just started loading up their crates. Kason was so proud of his batch...
As for little lady, well she had trouble staying on track with which ones not to pick ;)...
She just started yanking on them all! I tried to store her basket up high on the stroller since I kept explaining to her that I needed to clean them first, but the little stinker stole a couple instead and was all smiles about it (no shame)! Before we headed out, the kids had a picnic and were able to play around with a few more goats...
We never know how Max is going to roll with certain situations, but I am so pleased to say he rocked this field trip! He chose to stay in the stroller for most of it, but did get out and play a bit during the lunch break...
Lunch was fun because it gave the kids free time to roam and run. I love, love seeing Kason hang with his buddies and how sweet his friends are. They get so excited that I know their names and always come up and say hi with their sheepish smiles...too cute!
This is Aidan, one of his favorite buddies from class. As we were leaving, we decided to pick a few more strawberries with Kason's other favorite buddy, Brayden...
Of course little lady was trying her hardest to keep up with these boys, that her stubby legs landed right in the mud! Oh friends, she was so stuck that I had to yank her up so hard to snap her out of it. I thought it was kinda funny, but Zoe didn't appreciate it one bit...
This would be her shoe, you could only make out the color of her shoes from the inside...eeek! I am so thankful to Ms. Chapman for scheduling such a fun field trip for these kids...
All of them had a great time learning, exploring, and playing together!
When the field trip was over, I snagged Kason and had him ride with us so he could enjoy the rest of his afternoon and sneak out of school for a few minutes :). We dropped in for a frozen treat before hitting the road for our drive home...
I couldn't tempt Max with any bites, but he sure thought it was hilarious to fling ice cream everywhere...hehe!
We are working so hard on sharing food and the journey of eating with him...one day this exploration will pay off! The day of fun wore out the littles, so after laying them down for a nap when we got home, Kason and I decided to make a small batch of strawberry jelly since we had a large loot. I guided Kason in the process, but he did most of the work all by his little self. He started by washing off the freshly picked strawberries with vinegar and water...
Followed by smashing and cooking the jelly concoction...
I did all the canning myself since it is too dangerous for him to help, but I'm beyond proud of his hard work.
Kason can hardly wait to bring his teacher a jar tomorrow...I'm thinking he may end up being the chef of the family due to his love of the kitchen. The cutest part of the canning process was watching these two go to town on their hard earned strawberries!
Love them and this fun filled strawberry partying day!
