Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo...

While we were in Conroe visiting grandparents, Doc took Monday off to treat the grands to their very first Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo! After much debate, we decided to forgo the rodeo in the evening thinking it would be too late and not really conducive for littles, but knew the kids would love spending the day exploring the exhibits and carnival. We got there early and went straight to the animals...
Kason enjoyed seeing all the show animals even though we could only look from a distance. I so wished Daniel could have been there because this is definitely in his wheel house since he showed animals growing up. We then moved to the kids arena area where they were able to look at a variety of animals...
and even a petting zoo!
Kason did really well feeding the animals with Doc and petting several. Sweet Zoe (who is our animal lover) was mesmerized by watching, but not interested in petting any...
Our Mr. Max was right there with us along for the ride, but since the petting zoo was so crowded we opted to hang out on the outside.
In the kids area, there was an area full of miniature animals which fascinated the munchkins...
I know we aren't really a western family except for Kason's obsession with boots, but I can hardly stand all the cuteness of little lady in Kason's old boots from when he was her age!
She is totally rockin' those boots :). After the livestock area, we headed to the carnival side where we enjoyed classic fair food like large corn dogs and cheese fries. Then, we hit up a few rides! Our adrenaline junky Kason was itching to get a fix...
I was so incredibly proud of little man! I rode the first ride with him, but didn't want to spend all their tokens (because those rides aren't cheap!) and he boldly went on a couple of rides by himself. This is huge progress for our anxiety ridden fella.
I'm guessing the temptation of flying high and fast was too much to handle that he conceded :)...
Little lady is not an adrenaline junky, so much so that she's even scared of swings, carousels, pretty much anything that moves....so, I was super proud when she courageously rode a ride with her big brother!
As you can see she was lovin' every minute...
I never know how Max is going to handle a day like this when there aren't a whole lot of activities for him to participate in or even a place to get around and crawl, but as usual he surprised us and did awesome. I'm so thankful to have such a go with the flow fella! Of course before Doc and I could leave, we had to pick up a couple of necessities: kettle corn popcorn and a funnel cake...eeek!
A HUGE thank you to Doc for spoiling us with a day of livestock and rodeo fun! The kids and I appreciate you taking a day off of work to make memories with our little boot lovin' cowpokes :).
