Seussical Fun...

We could not, would not, want to miss, a fun celebration of learning quite like this! That is right friends, the little munchkins and I have been having a Seussical good time with mommy school with our free time so far this summer. With each book we read, I focused on either reading, writing, or math concepts. We started off with a classic, Cat in the Hat, to get them excited...
and then worked on a puzzle. We finger painted a hat learning about the color red for Zoe...
while Max learned about the color red using his spinner on his lightbox!
We even tried balancing items on our head which was pretty comical!
Next up, Ten Apples which may not be as familiar, but a great one for math skills...so we actually did this one during nap time so I could focus on just Kason. He put together a number puzzle for problem solving...
then worked on counting to twelve and number recognition using tweezers to transfer pom pom balls in order...
Kason and I also started learning about adding and subtracting using real apples and then treated ourselves to a snack and apple stamping :)...
One Fish, Two Fish was another fun day where Kason graphed gold fish by color...
while Zoe sorted gold fish by color...
that was when she wasn't popping them in her mouth, the little stinker! Kason got to go fishing with Daniel at the mini-lake nearby and we also made fish dessert out of jello. Kason was fascinated as we talked about the different stages of matter going from liquid to solid...
Of course, one can't read Dr. Seuss without Green Eggs and Ham! So we did just that while eating a delightful dinner :)...
Kason and I also learned about rhyming words and he worked on a puzzle matching rhyming words since that is what Dr. Seuss is known for. The last book we read was one of my favorite days, the ABC  Book. While reading the book, Kason had to stamp each letter I read aloud...
while zoe "matched" (or rather played) with magnet letters...
Then, we got out the whip cream (because I knew Zoe would eat shaving cream) and we practiced our letters...
 or just painted ourselves :)...
or was just completely grossed out by the entire thing!
Yes, sweet Max isn't too crazy about touching most textures. Since I knew this would be a messy day we enjoyed the rain on the back patio while we worked, then headed out to splash around and clean off...
For the last Dr. Seuss activity, I let Kason watch one of his favorite movies...Lorax. We talked about recycling and taking care of the earth as well as indulging our sweet tooth by making...
Lorax tree cupcakes! We had so much fun in the kitchen together...
and the kids were tickled to serve them as dessert after dinner that night. Oh the joys of mommy school and the places you will go with learning fun!
