Maxwell...Max...anything but wimpy white boy please! So, there is a saying that floats around the NICU for babies like mine and Daniel's...wimpy white boy is what they call him because wimpy white boys supposedly have the lowest success rate in the NICU. Therefore, I like to give my little peanut a motivational speech everyday to pump him up! Physically it is working because Max is now weighing in at 2 pounds 15 ounces and what is even more incredible is that he is now 15 inches long (that is two inches in just a month)!!!

As you can see from the previous picture, he loves to stretch out after his sponge bath! What else does he love? Let's see, he doesn't like loud noises or babies crying, a wet diaper, nor does he like bright lights. But he does love to be sung to, his head gently stroked, and for his body to be swaddled while stretching out only his left leg.

Daniel and I are slowly getting to participate more as parents by helping with sponge baths, changing diapers, taking his temperature and we are allowed to touch him occasionally. I have held him twice, but Daniel hasn't been able to yet.

One thing I love about Max that all the nurses constantly comment about is his gorgeous blond hair...they are already calling him a good lookin' charmer!

As far as his progress, well it is a very slow process. Max has had a slow recovery from the surgery that lasted about a week. He finally progressed a little this past week but has hit another plateau. The doctor said it may take him a little longer before he can come off the ventilator, but good news is he is finally reaching his goal feeding by tomorrow...which is a whole 24 cc's! One reason that he is not progressing real fast is because he has had brain hemorrhaging. His right side is very minor (nothing to worry about), but his left side of his brain has had significant bleeding. There is no way to know the effects of this until he is older, but we are praying fervently for his body to heal the hemorrhage on its own. Therefore, all our prayer warrior friends out there...please pray for this precious wimpy white boy...

so we can blow those statistics out of the water! What those nurses and doctors don't know is that he has the feisty, stubborn Clayton Crew spirit who doesn't give up!
