Ridin' the Rails...

Since we live in one of the 'burbs north of Austin, there is a commuter MetroRail station not far from our house. After school on Friday...
we took the kids on a ride downtown for dinner!
The kids are always excited about our family fun weekends, but Kason of course was the most thrilled as he absolutely loves all things transportation. You can see his reaction when he saw the MetroRail pull into the station...
that's right friends, feet actually left the ground :).
I absolutely love the sheer joy and wonder on their faces as they took it all in during the ride. Max also had a great time...
he was a little unsure at first, but then perked up once the initial shock wore off. It took around 45 minutes to get from our station all the way downtown, but all 5 of us enjoyed the ride. It was fun to see different parts of the city we haven't explored yet. The MetroRail dumped us off downtown where we walked to dinner...
After dinner, we strolled around a few blocks, got coffee and dessert, then loaded back up to head home.
Riding the rails downtown for dinner was probably one of our favorite exploring Austin experiences so far as a family. I think the kids were just tickled to stay up past their bedtimes and not even get back to the car until dark...what a treat!
