National Fossil Day...

Yesterday was National Fossil Day, so you know that I just had to add in some fun for my dinosaur loving 5 year old! And yes, if you ever wondered...I am that geeky mom that does fun lunches for my kids on special days :)...
Kason happened to have early release at noon yesterday, so after getting him in the mood for a little dinosaur fun at lunch, we took him to the Texas Memorial Museum on the UT campus to celebrate Fossil Day!
Mimi even happened to be in town so she tagged along with us while digging up some fun. We started out by exploring all of the fossils collected in the Texas region...
Not all of the exhibit was the actual bones, some were casts like Kason's favorite dinosaur, the facial skull of T-Rex...
What was so neat about yesterday, is there were paleontologist set up around the museum that had different activities. The kids especially loved being able to make their own trace fossil...
Which they got to bring home and harden over night.
Another area was set up to examine fossils closer using a magnifying glass which Kason thought was "way cool"...
Both kids fought over looking through the telescope :)...
I loved how the paleontologist had so many fossils for the kids to touch and feel. It made the museum experience more hands on learning.
They were also so good at sharing all sorts of information and facts with the kids in terms they would understand that made it fascinating.
Kason and Zoe were super excited because the paleontologist let them pick out a fossil of their own to take home! Mr. Max found himself a blue ball that spinned, so he was content to just roll that little guy around while the other two explored since he couldn't go down all the stairs to see the whole exhibit.
I had originally taken Kason for the fossil portion of the museum, but when we got there we learned there were three other floors to check out which ended up being just as much fun for our little man. The other floor Kason liked was the all wildlife found within the different regions of Texas. Max especially loved these blown up photographs that he could touch and see up close...
Kason and Zoe had a blast wondering around spotting different animals they already knew about..
or learning new ones. Mimi did a great job telling Kason all the different names of animals and where they could be found in Texas :). I even got Kason his own egg that he can dig a dinosaur fossil out of like the paleontologist, but we ran out of time...oh well, another day. Not going to lie, I think I could get used to Kason going just half days though...we all had so much exploring the museum together and digging up a few new fossil facts!
